The Adverse Media Report from Persona is an integral part of Finmo’s KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) screening process. This report helps brokers assess potential risks associated with clients by scanning global media sources to identify any unfavourable or adverse information. Here’s a guide to understanding each section of the report.


How do I read the report?

Inquiry Details

Pages one through two.

  • Inquiry ID: A unique identifier for the screening inquiry, used to track and reference the report.

  • Status: Displays as Approved, indicating the report was processed successfully without immediate flags.

  • Date: The inquiry’s submission date, is recorded as October 18, 2024, in this example.

  • Consent: Listed as true, confirming consent was obtained for screening.

  • Generated Time: Shows the exact timestamp when the report was created, valuable for documentation and audit trails.


2. Attributes

  • Personal Information: Basic details about the individual, including:

    • Full Name: Client first, Client last

    • Birthdate: Provided for identity confirmation.

    • Other Identifiers: Fields such as address, government ID, phone number, and email are marked “N/A” if they were not provided during the inquiry.

  • Generated Timestamp: This timestamp documents when each section was created, ensuring accuracy and maintaining an audit record.


3. Reports

Verifications and Reports: This section shows the types of screenings conducted. In this example, two reports were included:

  • Politically Exposed Person (PEP): Checks if the individual matches the profile of a PEP—someone with a prominent public role or political exposure. No matches here indicate that the borrower is not identified as a PEP.

  • Watchlist: This is a broader screening for flagged categories like sanctions, warnings, and fitness and probity risks. It helps assess reputational and financial crime risks.

Watchlist Report Results:

  • Sanctions: Flags any sanctions against the individual, signalling restrictions or penalties due to regulatory non-compliance.

  • Politically Exposed Persons (PEP): Indicates any PEP-related flags if detected.

  • Warnings: Identifies warnings that suggest potential financial crime or reputational risks.

  • Fitness and Probity: Assesses the individual’s suitability for regulatory roles or positions with specific compliance obligations.


4. Session Details

This section provides context around the report’s session to help confirm the origin and any potential security risks:

  • Session ID: A unique identifier for the session tied to the report.

  • Status: Displays as Active, indicating the session was recently completed or still active.

  • IP Information:

    • IP Address: Shows the IP address from which the inquiry originated.

    • Threat Rating: Flags potential security concerns, such as Medium in this example.

    • Location: Includes geographic data such as country and region.

    • Proxy Usage: Notes if a public or private proxy was used, providing insight into the session's legitimacy. In this case, a public proxy is detected.

    • ISP and Device Details: Information about the Internet Service Provider and device used in the inquiry, is valuable for understanding the environment of the screening.
